Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine Clinic

How does it work?
Acupuncture works by stimulating sensory nerves in skin and muscles. These nerves send signals to the spinal cord and brain, releasing endorphins and other neurotransmitters and thereby preventing the nerves from sending pain sensations to the brain. Researchers believe that some other neurotransmitters are also released, bringing about a feeling of peacefulness, well-being, and tranquility as reported by patients during and after acupuncture. Some scientists think that acupuncture may also stimulate the immune system and triggers the release of anti-inflammatory agents into the bloodstream.

Does it hurt?
Many who are interested in acupuncture are put off by the fear of pain. Fortunately, acupuncture needles are nothing like the needles used on hypodermic syringes. Acupuncture needles are solid and about as thick as a human hair. Acupuncture needles have a doweled end rather than a cutting end, resulting in little to no pain, tissue damage, or bruising when inserted. Acupuncture needles are gently placed at specific points, the gateways of the body according to Chinese traditional medicine. Some people feel a slight sting, but not pain when an acupuncture needle is inserted. Many a time patients ask, with eyes closed and teeth clenched, "When are you going to put the needles in?" They are usually surprised to learn that the needles have already been put in place. Furthermore, there is no risk of infection since acupuncture clincs use disposable, sterilized needles.
Does it work? (Testimonials)
"I went to Dr. Chen several times when I had a severe case of sciatica. Her treatment included a range of therapies including acupuncture, massage, special electromagnetic therapy, Chinese herbal medicine, and specific exercises. My back and upper leg pain lessened immediately, and I am confident that I healed significantly quicker due to the treatments. I was especially comforted by the fact that Dr. Chen has training in both Eastern and Western medicine, and impressed by her painless and effective treatments." ------ Michael A. Fowler, President of JDB Network

"Maybe you cannot believe it, but this is a true story. I once got a weird hiccup problem. It went on without stop for more than two days even after I tried all the affords including drinking water, soup, and being shocked. It was a painful experience (imagine that you were going through this for days). I was very lucky to see Ms. Teli Chen. She used her amazing acupuncture on my hands and legs. Just about two minutes, it was gone. I could not believe that my problem was 'shocked' out of way by her acupuncture but not anything else. I always appreciate her acupuncture skills for curing my pain." ------ Charles Chen, PhD

"Dr. Chen has helped me in so many ways. I started going to her for my back problems in 2006. After seeing her for a few times my back felt 80% better. I continued to go to her for about a month or so and my back has been better ever sense. I had neck problems in 208 and went to her for it. It took about the same amount of time and I have not had any problems. At the time I was going to her for my neck I wanted to stop smoking for the 3rd time. She gave me about 4 treatments and to this day I think that smoking is the most disgusting habit a person could have. The first two times I quit I thought that it still smelled good but now I can't stand the smell of it. I just want to thank her for all the wonderful things that she has done for me." ------ Tammy Koch
